Magnetic acrylic double glazing, cut to your windows

A clear acrylic panel with magnetic tape around its back edge snaps onto a thin steel strip inside your existing window frame. The trapped air gap cuts heat loss and street noise. No drilling, no tradie, and it lifts off in seconds.

  • Fits in about 15 minutes per window

In the box

Every part is cut to your sizes

Acrylic panel

Clear acrylic, 3mm or 4mm, protective film on both faces. Half the weight of glass and far harder to break.

Magnetic tape

Foam-backed magnetic tape, already stuck around the back edge of the panel. The foam presses flat against the frame and seals the gap.

Steel strip

White self-adhesive steel tape, cut to the four lengths you need. It sticks to your window frame and the panel snaps onto it.

Fitting kit

A frame cleaning wipe and printed instructions with a photo for each step.

Measuring

How to measure your window

  1. Find a flat face

Pick the flat part of the frame around the glass, at least 25mm wide on every side. The steel strip sits there.

  2. Measure the glass opening

Measure the width at top, middle and bottom, and the height at left, middle and right. Use the largest of each.

  3. Add 40mm to each

That gives 20mm of overlap onto the frame on all four sides. Enter those two numbers in the calculator.

Not sure? Send a photo of the window with a tape measure across it and we'll check your sizes before cutting.

Who it suits

Warmer rooms without new windows

Renters

Nothing is drilled or replaced. Peel off the steel strip when you move out.

Older single-glazed homes

Keep original timber windows and leadlights while stopping the cold coming off the glass.

Bedrooms on busy roads

The air gap takes the edge off traffic noise. A wider gap between the two layers works better.

Questions

Secondary glazing FAQ

Does secondary glazing actually keep heat in?

Yes. A 2022 study of retrofitted homes in the ACT measured heat loss through the window falling by up to 60.8% after an extra inner pane was added. How much you get depends on how well the panel seals against the frame. More numbers here.

Can renters install it?

Yes. Nothing is drilled or replaced. The steel strip is held on with adhesive and peels off when you move out. Test a short piece on painted frames first.

Can I still open my window?

On a fixed pane the panel stays put. On an opening sash, stick the steel strip to the sash itself so the panel moves with it, or lift the panel off when you want air.

Is thicker acrylic warmer?

Barely. Most of the insulation comes from the still air trapped between the glass and the panel, not from the acrylic itself. Our estimate for a single-glazed window: 3mm panel about U 2.78, 4mm about 2.74, 6mm about 2.66, against about 5.8 with no panel. What matters more is a sealed edge all the way round and an air gap of 15mm or more. We use 4mm on big panels so they stay flat and keep the seal, not to add warmth.

Will I get condensation between the layers?

Usually less than on bare single glazing. Clean and dry the glass before fitting, and lift the panel off now and then in very damp weather.

What is the largest panel you make?

2000mm on the longest side and 2 square metres in area. Bigger windows are split into two panels that meet on a steel strip in the middle.

How is it delivered?

Panels travel flat between rigid boards. Orders with several windows go in one parcel, so delivery per window drops as you add more.

Can I return a kit?

Each kit is cut to your sizes, so it can't be resold. We check your sizes with you by email before anything is cut. Anything damaged in transit is replaced.
